Build It Green is a building culture catalyzer. We convene stakeholders and develop their capacity to transform the housing ecosystem by offering credible, accessible resources.
We built our reputation on bringing residential green building into the mainstream, but we’ve always known that shifting home building toward more sustainable practices was a starting place, not a destination.
Today, we’re envisioning a new approach to home and neighborhood building that fosters health in the broadest sense — as an interconnected web of personal, community and bioregional well-being.
Climate change threatens the safety and prosperity of human and planetary systems. We must change the way we design, build, and upgrade our homes to decrease carbon emissions dramatically. In doing so, we’ll also create economic opportunity and make homes more affordable and healthy, especially for vulnerable populations.
Reduce unnecessary complexity to empower homeowners and building industry professionals.
Enhance people’s health and well-being, support unique needs and foster human interactions.
Provide a flexible approach for different environments, aesthetics, and users.
Integrate with the landscape
and existing community
character.
Creatively leverage existing
financial resources to make
accessible to many.
Select materials and processes that generate new social, economic, and environmental well-being.
As part of UC Berkeley’s Community Partner Organization Program, Build It Green is pleased to welcome these five passionate and motivated individuals as part of their pre-career exploration. We are excited to have their support on our programs and communications work this fall.
We envision a healthy housing ecosystem that fosters well-being in individuals, communities and bioregions.
